Town pride runs deep at Victor Harbor. From its foreshore to streetscapes, and especially gardens, it always looks pristine thanks to the Town Pride Gardening Group!

As every visitor to one of South Australia’s premier coastal towns will attest, Victor Harbor is always immaculate! One very good reason the gardens in Victor Harbor look as good as they do is due to the highly enthusiastic Town Pride Gardening Group of volunteers. Kim chats with the group’s coordinator, Pat Chigwidden, who gives us an insight into her passionate team.

The group started approximately 3 years ago when Pat and other Victor Harbor council members decided to paint the cement pots along Ocean Street. Since its inception, the Victor Harbor Town Pride Gardening Group has grown to 17 volunteers who look after garden beds and pots in the main street and CBD of Victor Harbor with the help of the council who provide the plants, fertiliser and other supplies.

Planting roses and other annuals, weeding, deadheading, picking up rubbish and general tidying are just some of the invaluable things the Town Pride Gardening Group does in their own time for Victor Harbor.

Pat takes Kim through some of the projects they’ve been involved in, including roundabouts by Newman Church and the council chambers, as well as the South Australian Whale Centre garden.

The Victor Harbor Town Pride Gardening Group is a terrific initiative that’s very rewarding, social and therapeutic for its volunteers!
