If you’ve noticed an unexplained spike in your SA Water bill there may be a leak on your property! Kim shows us what to do to get to the bottom of the matter!

There are some water leaks that are very obvious…and then there are plenty that are not! An unexplained increase in your water consumption could be due to a leak on your property.

Kim shows you what to if you suspect a leak. The first place to visit is your water meter, the numbers on the dial only rotate when water is passing through it.

Write down all the numbers, paying particular attention to the coloured numbers on the right of the dial, then make sure no water is being used in the house, including flushing a toilet. Leave for a couple of hours or overnight, and if those numbers have moved (and you haven’t used any water) then there’s a leak somewhere!

Some usual leaky suspects are dripping outside taps and running toilet cisterns, also keep an eye out for any suspicious damp patches around the yard.

Any water used on your side of the meter is your responsibility, so if you have a leak it’s important to get it fixed as soon as possible. Leaks tend to get worse with age, so whether it’s you or a licensed plumber, you need to get it sorted pronto!
