With a long hot summer ahead of us, and not a lot of rain on the horizon, how are our reservoirs holding up and do we have enough water to get us through?

The best person to speak to about water security in South Australia is SA Water’s Network Operations Manager, Steve Rose, who is confident that despite the heat and increased domestic water usage Adelaide’s water supply is secure.

Our reservoirs are our primary water storage areas. They supply homes and businesses across South Australia. The reservoirs don’t just fill with rain, we can also use them as storage for River Murray water to help meet customer demand.

At full capacity, our reservoirs can hold almost 200,000 megalitres (ML) of water. This equates to just under a year’s supply for metropolitan Adelaide.

The largest Adelaide reservoir is Mt Bold.

Water is a finite resource and one we all need to look after, no matter how much water we have in our reservoirs. For more information on reservoir levels and water saving ideas, head to the SA water website!
