Have a few holes in the garden? Then it’s time to fill them in!

North facing spots need tough plants and Australian natives such as eremophilas and correas do beautifully. Speaking of stunning, while they’re not native, alstroemeria are an absolute flower powerhouse!

No matter how good the plants are, your soil preparation is even more important! Dig a hole, twice the size of the pot and add plenty of well-aged compost or manure, then add some hydrated water crystals. Plants, especially native plants need a gentle start, so an organic fertiliser such as dynamic lifter is essential to the planting process – add a good handful or two.

The great thing about organic fertilisers like this is they don’t burn roots and you can apply after planting. In fact, don’t stop at the new plants, your old ones love a feed too!
