Who said gardening was hard work? At Glandore Community Garden it’s nothing but fun! Community gardens are an increasing sight throughout Adelaide and the state. Once bare patches of land are now productive plots thanks to the vision of keen locals wanting to make a difference. Kim chats with Dr David ‘Harry’ Harrison, a foundation member of the Glandore Community Garden who helped establish the garden in the early 2000’s with support from Marion Council. Gardening is all about sowing, growing and harvesting, and at the Glandore Community Garden they take it one step further – they share the food! You can enjoy homemade pizzas made with loads of fresh produce straight from the garden, cooked in the eye-catching frog shaped wood-oven, which was lovingly mosaicked by at least 30 – 40 people from the community. At the Glandore Community Garden there are loads of ways to get involved. You can have an individual plot or can simply come along to volunteer and help in the garden as suits you. Kim chats with some of those passionate individuals currently involved in the garden. Pizza Day is the first Tuesday of every month – anyone is welcome, just book in with the Glandore Community Centre in advance, and with a cost of $2 per person, why wouldn’t you?!
