Australia’s harsh sun takes its toll on both plants and people. Being able to enjoy our great outdoors and still be sun smart is something well all need to be aware of.

Being sun smart doesn’t mean staying out of the sun completely, does it?

Certainly not, but it’s important to be aware of the peak times for sun exposure, generally the middle of the day.

What are the essentials to staying sun smart?
• Avoiding peak times
• Wearing the right clothing
• Regularly apply sunscreen
• Wear a hat
• Seek Shade
• Wear sunglasses

When it comes to sun smart products, the biggest question is for sunscreens, what’s the best?

Really the best advice is to keep your skin covered when out in the sun & in addition to this and for the areas you can’t cover sunscreen is really important.

The SPF rating is a measure of the fraction of sunburn-producing UV rays that reach the skin. For example, “SPF 50” means that 1/50th of the burning radiation will reach the skin.

The higher the rating the better the protection.
